Italian Passive Voice (Passivo)
Back
Construction and Usage
Construction:
The passive voice in Italian is formed using the auxiliary verb "essere" followed by the past participle of the main verb. The past participle must agree in gender and number with the subject.

Structure:
Subject + essere (conjugated) + past participle + (by agent)
Usage:
The passive voice is used when the focus is on the action being done to the subject, rather than who is performing the action. It is commonly used in formal writing, reports, and when the doer of the action is unknown or unimportant.
